Hello, I am new, lost and dizzy. Looking for a sponsor. I do not know anything and I've got information overflow now. Like this is all I needed .. I do not know what a sponsor should do for me but I hope he/she can do only good things. Thanks, Lisa
The ACA Program can be overwhelming at first. One of our slogans is Easy Does It....
There are different sponsorship models. There is information on the ACA World Service Organization web site at https://adultchildren.org/resources/sponsorship-fellow-traveler/. There is the traditional mentor/mentee relationship, or the fellow traveler model of co-equals. I suggest getting involved in this board and meetings to look for someone you relate to; same-sex is usually recommended.
Another tip: No one is going to rescue you. We each need to do our recovery work.
Lisa, I've been where you are. On overload and looking for help. Initially in ACA I was super frustrated and didn't understand the fellow traveler model. But it's truly the best way, in my opinion. Go to meetings - phone meetings, online meetings, video meetings, whatever works for you. And take it slow. Trust your inner guide to lead you. You've got this! Keep coming back. XOXO
