those Americans are real fanatics on dem der steps...
Not so hot on the traditions, apart for the first one or two... [in my view]. On this board we have the steps, traditions, and the concepts...
...that means do have a structure behind us- and safeguards... for embers... members...
Our MIP Alanon has but far the most members, and this ACA group comes second- with regard to numbers.
Most of the recovery clubhouses I have attended stateside are dominated by AA. I attended one such in Texas late last year- and none of the regular members knew what ACA was, or what room they happened to meet in.
But hey- we could put a rapid end to that sort of ignorance! [cf. tradition 11... ...].
I uses words like 'caint' and 'aint'... and also USA words like acolyte, alumni, emeritus, sorority, and fraternity... mostly because ah've heard it all on Tv... watching the Beverly Hillbillies, or somesuch. ...
But my topic- the steps... for a long time I likened the steps to the numbers on the clock... just goin' around and around...
I did not like the thought of getting up to step 12 and then falling down to the bottom- without a rail. More or less what happens in any early recovery. ??? ...
so... I do want our groups here to have a life of their own... we did have a steps group for a number of years- both ACA and Alanon. Maybe that is where ah'm headed.
I wa impressed with one of our Alanon members here on MIP. She must belong to a big city group. Members with common and go to a newcomers group, a steps group, or an old-timers group. There is a fair bit of a shuffle in the foyer- depending who is there- and members, I think are fairly flexible, on the night, as to who goes where...
...ah lives in a hick town in the far far south.
We got Alanon and AA groups here when the construction crews came along to build a dam. I think they were hard bitten characters... -more or less. And mostly out was all wives who came along to Alanon.
Nowadays there are many mens in Alanon and a heap of sheilas in AA, NA, and all the rest...
