I'm a Newcomer and I have no idea what I'm Doing

Hello folks,

So for a start, I'm a 21 year old Adult child of an alcoholic that recently just realized I needed to stop putting off what trauma I went through and actually take initiative to reach out and heal.

That leads me here, unsure where to start. Recently I picked up the Big Red Book and also read Janet Woititz's Adult Children of Alcoholics. Turns out just after reading through that and doing some research, I've been able to identify myself as the Family Hero, and an extreme perfectionist who seemingly judges myself without mercy. Literally even posting here makes me uncomfortable, because the first thing that comes to mind is how unproductive I feel, that I'm not constantly "getting after it" and "putting forth 110%".

I know though I need to address who I've become over the years, and properly educate myself and begin to understand how the family alcoholism has really affected me. Glad to be here and I'm looking forward to the journey. I'd like to find a sponsor too.

Cheers, T3

Welcome to MIP, T3!!

Recovery is a journey.  It took us a while to get this way, and it takes a while to break bad habits and stinkin' thinkin'.

Pull up a chair and join our experience, strength, and hope!
