Hello - My first post

Brand New here. I came here at the urging of a therapist I have had 2 sessions with, regarding stubborn health problems.  She wanted me to attend physical meetings, but as I am an older person and slightly disabled now, getting out at night to a meeting is risky for me, especially during this snowy, icy weather. So here I am . I have put if off for 2 months, because I feel utterly exhausted at the prospect of getting into this stuff again at my age, 72. But I am not feeling well and there is nothing wrong on any medical tests, so the therapist believes it it long term effects of grief and trauma. So I will give this group a try. But honestly, I don't know where to begin, and where I will get the energy to revisit all those old wounds.

Hey Carolyn, I hear ya..I am in low 70's as well and my body has back spasms, because I have PTSD and GAD and yea, its nothing medical, just old grief and trauma...I came here, began taking care of myself physically, mentally, emotionally, and tho I still get the back spasms, they are NOTHING like the old ones....its called "stored pain" and its God awful.......Just come on in and read the posts, and share what you feel comfortable ...there is never any pressure here..some folks start out slow...some quicker, its ALL up to you and what feels good for you...............WELCOME to the family

Welcome to MIP, Carolyn!

I'm also a youngster in my mid-60s.

As we say in The ACA Program, one step at a time!!  You don't have to "recover" all at once.  We have a lifetime of stored trauma; it takes a while to unravel it!  We only have to do as much or as little as we can handle.

Here we support each other with experience, strength, and hope; this is a no judgement zone!!!

We do have Tuesday night online meetings; free parking!

Please let me or mamalioness know if you have any questions.

Hi Carolyn.

I am pretty new to ACA. I began visiting this forum in July. And it has become my "home group". And I love that I have been able to take on the work each day or not as I choose. It's totally up to me. And I have found everyone here to be accepting and pressure free! And have always taken me just as I am. Some days, I'm just not up to even visiting the forum - but that's all about me needing space and time away.

It's nice to have you here. It really is. And guess what? You may not have known where to start.. but you did! I have come to believe that age is truly irrelevant here. As we are are just children learning to play. Come out to join us anytime you can!

With love,

April

Thank you all. About the Tuesday night meetings, that is my only night out. I get a ride to church for Bible study. What time is the meeting in what time zone?

Thank you,

Carolyn

My parents were not drinkers. They were in fact teetotalers. There was never a drop of alcohol in my home. I am here for the "dysfunctional families" part. Is this the right place for me to be?

of COURSE you belong here....abuse, abandonment , like you say, dysfunctional qualifies you for here....and YES...I believe this is the exact right place for you to be....there are others here who had no alcohol in their families, but they were nonetheless dysfunctional.....so you are home............welcome home!!!!!

You just click on the ACA Meeting link here in the forum on meeting time.  It is under the ACA tab and I'll include the link here too.

Phoenix, I suggest you test the meeting chat room ahead of time to make sure you can get in.  You need the latest Java version.

Welcome to the family!

Hi Phoenix, welcome to MIP. I also have a lot of health issues exacerbated by PTSD. So I can relate to not having much show up on lab tests. I know how frustrated I feel when I feel so bad physically and dont have a diagnosis. I really like the Tuesday chat meetings. When you are ready, I hope you can join us sometime!
