Repeat After Me

Hi this is my first attempt at a meeting. I've been struggling with co-dependency that I inherited from my mom. My life has become unmanageable. So I'm doing this workbook called "repeat after me". It's a therapy for adult children of alcoholics. It's very difficult so far but also rewarding. I'm having trouble facing my shit. I didn't realize I had packed so much away. I'm a mom of a 3 year old and separated 2 years now from my ex boyfriend who is an addict. He's a good father but turns out is just exactly like my father. I'm trying to get healthy while still maintains a good parenting relationship with him. I would love to have a friend or "fellow traveler" to show me the ropes! You guys are awesome!

Welcome to MIP, Naturalmama!

Since you admit that your life is unmanageable, you have already done the first Step!

I'm not familiar with that workbook, but Claudia Black is one of the big names in recovery.

One thing I have learned is that I don't have to face all of my sh*t at one time.  I certainly had a boatload of it, and I still discover piles from time to time!

We are a small group of fellow travelers; welcome to the family!

Hey Naturalmama...welcome and yea, you already know life is unmanageable, that is the first step to surrendering it up b/c you know you can't manage under your own will/p0wer, etc., I read Melodie Beattie and John Bradshaw (inner child work) and boy just worked it, and shared what I learned and just getting it OUT in the sun where the sun dries up all the dark, smelly, decayed CRAP in my life, my past which I kept perpetuating because it was "comfortable" it was hell, but it was familiar and "comfortable' in recovery there is a whole new way to live.....doing the steps....sharing on the board....(Hope to see you on main board...LOADS of good stuff to share) sharing on the board, just being BELIEVED and VALIDATED helped me greatly.....and the more you share, and trade with others, the more you feel about yourself and connected to self....and your higher power as you understand him/her/it......and yea, I didn't have to "do it all at once" this is not a race..its not a 'who does so and so best" its progress...we all progress on our own comfort zone, and the deeper the pain in the past, the deeper the recovery......welcome....and nice to see you

You are a brave women. Though your life is unmanageable but still you are trying to manage everything for your little children. You have great inner strength which can handle everything.
