Coming to ACA

Greetings Fellow Travelers!

Bright blessings to you and yours.  My name is Victoria.  I am a single parent of five children, three of whom live at home, and was born into magically alcoholic family.  Born some 45 years  ago to a mother who was a recent high-school graduate and a father who had recently graduated from the Vietnam War, my life was not too unlike any other.  I had an incredible family who adored me and remembered many a day surrounded by song, and cousins, and childlike fun.

Enter divorce.  Then enter stepdad.  Cool enough in the beginning, it was not long before he was abusing me sexually, punishing me severely for sucking my thumb and essentially performing actions which convinced me that I was absolutely worthless.  Did I mention he was also an alcoholic?

I'm not going to go into great detail about my story except to say that I was married, had kids, divorced, had more kids, went crazy, did all kinds of drugs and drank like a fish.  I sought abusive boyfriend after abusive boyfriend and was always successful in those efforts.  Today, if I can't be me around you, I'm not around you. :)

It has been five years and six months since I have used drugs, alcohol, or other substances to change the way I think or feel and I am pretty proud of that.  But I also believe that there is always more healing that can be done.  I feel like the God of my understanding is taking me to my root causes and conditions.  And the ACA stuff is it.

I have never been to an ACA meeting.  The one in my town went dark.  I am very excited that I am about to attend an online meeting in approximately 12 minutes.  I have purchased alot of ACA literature and am excited about the work.  I am genuinely excited about taking this journey with all of you. :)

Victoria

Welcome Victoria.
I am living in France and the only way I can get near ACA is on this board,
I even worked the steps here. It changed my life.

Supportive hugs,

Iléana

Thanks for sharing your story, Victoria.  And congratulations on 5.5 years sobriety!

I also went through a series of alcoholic/dysfunctional boyfriends.  I was fortunate to meet my hubby when I was about your age; a diamond in the rough!

I believe ACA issues are behind a lot of addictions and personality disorders.  I hope you find some answers and growth here!

Missed you at the meeting last night; hope to see you next week!

In Recovery,

Princess K.

Welcome Victoria. I believe ACA is helping me. Hopefully it will help you as well. At the very least, it sounds as if you're doing you and not trying to be who you're not. I often think, if only I had done this at a much earlier age, I wouldnt have gone thru the things I did, the things I did to myself, of my own choosing. But here I am. Better late than never as some say. Good luck my friend.

Ditto, Karlo!

I didn't find out about ACA until I was 33.  Oh, the mistakes I made, and continued to make!  But I could only learn why I was sabotaging myself and eventually change my behavior.

I credit ACA with saving my life.  When I came into The Program I was chronically depressed, and didn't understand why.  DUH, coming from my background, that's how I was programmed!    It's up to me to unlearn that and do better.

In Recovery,

Princess K.

Thanks for the warm welcome Karlo.  I have a feeling that ACA is going to save my life.  I have had great success overcoming drugs and alcohol but this has me hitting a new bottom; one in which it is not unusual for me to consider swallowing a bullet.  That said, fear not, I don't own any firearms.  :)

Have a great now!

Victoria
